Description

A good matched pair of Victorian pitch pine benches, each with a thick plank top supported on shaped end supports with a central stretcher rail. The benches display the characteristic warm honey colour and straight grain associated with pitch pine, developed through age and use.

Robustly constructed and clearly made for practical use, these benches would originally have been intended for institutional, school, chapel or utility settings. Their simple, honest design now lends itself well to modern interiors, particularly farmhouse, country house or industrial schemes.

Both benches retain their original surfaces, showing knocks, wear and patination consistent with age, which adds to their character and authenticity.
