Description

This superb pair of 19th century bronze figures is by Alfred Grevin (1827 – 1892). He was an artist and a leading caricaturist best known during his lifetime for his caricature silhouettes of contemporary Parisian women. He was also a talented sculptor and cartoonist and was highly regarded in all aspects of his work.

These fine, detailed and sculpted bronze figures date to circa 1870 and depict the harlequin playing a large guitar like instrument and the faunesse, a mythical female figure playing the violin.

Both bronzes are in excellent condition with a very pleasing light to mid brown patina.
Both pieces are fully signed on their rectangular bases.

French, circa 1870

Height 41cm x width 18cm x depth 14cm
