A Black Forest limewood carved figure of a medieval young man playing Swiss bagpipes.
This superb Swiss Black Forest hand carved limewood figure portrays a young man from the medieval period dressed in a cloaked tunic and open toed boots playing a set of Swiss traditional bagpipes called Schweizer Sackpfeife which was a handmade wind instrument similar to our Scottish variety and commonly played from the medieval period to the early 18th century.
This finely carved figure is made from a single piece of dense lime wood. It dates to circa 1880 and is in perfect condition with its mellow coloured timber and rich dark patina.
