Description

his superb pair of English hallmarked silver telescopic candlesticks were hallmarked in Sheffield one 1815 – 16 and the other 1816 – 17. Undoubtedly both were made in 1816 by silversmiths John and Thomas Settle 1814 – 1825. They were noted as fine makers of candlesticks, coasters, cruets, Inkwell and toast racks. This fine pair of candlesticks is of a plain design with wreaths and collars of ornate foliate decoration. The columns are made in two parts which form the telescopic action which gives a variety of different heights at which they can be displayed. Both are monogrammed on the bases and sconces. The sconces are separate and can be removed for cleaning. Both candlesticks are in good original condition with a few very minor age-related marks.
