A French gilt bronze and marble inkwell circa 1870

Description

This fine quality inkwell was produced in France and dates to circa 1870. It is made from figured carrara marble which has been turned to produce the foot and body with gilt bronze sections forming the stem, lion head side mounts, the interior and hinged lid which is decorated with a foliate panel with a small female bust at its centre for raising the lid.

The inkwell is in very good condition, and possibly may have had a thin glass liner.
