Description

A rare early 19th century country house fire alarm bell beautifully made in heavy bronze with a wrought iron hand forged gong. A large brass ferrule supports the superb hand turned figured yew wood handle.

The bell sits on a raised wooden stand painted blue with the word fire in faded letters.

This type of bell would have been situated around a large country house for raising the alarm if a fire broke out, often causing devastation in these vast properties.

The bell is in good condition with a pleasing colour and patina.

The handle pivots slightly to aid its ring.

The stand would have been an estate made and is a rustic piece with character and charm.

Please note the bell is designed to sit on its stand as the gong protrudes below the bell and it would not stand upright without.

The bell Height 30cm x width 14cm x depth 14cm
The stand Height 5cm x width 17cm x depth 17cm
The height of the bell and stand 35cm
