Description

This remarkable rare and superbly made Indian desk inkstand is finely made from satinwood and veneered on all surfaces in deer antler and horn some of which have been left with its natural texture and other sections carved with diamond hobnail decoration. This large and highly decorative piece stands on four raised bun feet with a large single drawer above which is fitted with a pair of brass axe head handles and original central lock. On the surface above there are a pair of scalloped pen trays and the centre section is raised and fitted with a single pen drawer to one end. The top of this section is fitted with a pair of cut glass inkwells with hinged lids and in the centre of these bottles, there is a turned and carved horn container with a matching lift off lid that would have been used for sand or sealing wax. A most unusual and attractive piece in very good original condition.
