Description

This superb pair of sculptures depict a pair of male and female goats. They were produced in France in the mid-19th century originally sculpted by Pierre Jules Mene in 1844. These fine examples are cast to a high standard in iron. They show remarkable detail to their features and particularly their fur texture and they are both raised onto naturalistic bases. Iron is an unusual medium but occasionally used in fine sculptures at this period and is more commonly used with PJ Mene’s works.
I have acquired and sold several pieces in the past. In good condition with a pleasing dark patination
Circa 1850
