Description

London & Greenwich Railway
Metal Ticket
Circa 1830s
Both sides the same with the company's Coat of Arms.
A silvered copper ticket with the remains of the silvering seen in a few places.

The London and Greenwich Railway (L&GR) was opened in London between 1836 and 1838. It was the first steam railway in the capital, the first to be built specifically for passengers, and the first entirely elevated railway. It struggled to be profitable and was eventually leased by SER in the 1840s.

Approximate dimensions: diameter 2.7cm, weight 11.2 grams.
Although there is little of the silvering left, the ticket is otherwise in very good condition.
Free P&P in UK.
