Description

This is a fabulous, most impressive large gilt & gesso marginal mirror dating from around 1870. The fine frame is ornately detailed with flowers and foliage to the crest and the canted marginal mirrors are framed with an attractive egg and dart moulding with beautiful gilded highlights. The large central mirror is the original mercury plate as are the smaller side mirrors and all are in lovely servicable condition with only some characterful antiquating to the glass. The gilding has a beautiful patina and is very nicely rubbed to reveal a lovely deep red beneath, so highlighting the carving.
This substantial piece makes a great impact in any situation measuring 170 cms high by 115 cms wide at the extremities.
