Description

This is a really beautiful and decorative antique French mirror of grand scale dating from around 1870. The mirror is in excellent condition throughout and is a fine, elegant piece with beautiful gilt gesso harebells, laurel leaf and ribbon decoration to the outer frame. The inner sections are hand painted in a lovely duck egg blue as is the central cartouche which has a dreamlike classical scene set in the clouds with angelic cherub and doves of peace as well as a reclining muse holding musical instruments.
This is a depiction of Coresus and Callirrohe by the French Rococo artist Jean Honore Fragonard who painted in and around 1765 very much in the style of Angelica Kaufman.
The later mirror plate is in excellent clean condition and is a fine size full height mirror that looks fabulous floor standing but is also fitted with hangers to enable wall fixing.
The back has a label for Le Garde Meuble Public 18 Rue St. Augustin Bedel & Cie
