Description

This is a fabulous 19th century gilt wood and gesso dressing screen covered in silk damask and decorated with framed panels holding exquisitely fine Chinese artwork depicting flora and fauna, insects, butterflies, flowers and fruit.

The three panel screen has good quality dual action hinges that fold in either direction with each outer panel having a lower fielded damask silk section with five framed works of art above in gouache, painted on pith. The central panel has a gilded ornate crest above three gilded frames holding further works of art. The paintings really are outstanding works of great detail and beautiful colours. The silk has a small repair to one section on the back of the screen shown in the penultimate photo.

This is a really beautiful and very decorative item of good scale so really makes a fine impact in any room.

The measurements are 198 cms high by 210 in width opened fully. The side panes are 58 cms wide and the central panel measures 92 cms in width.
