Description

Taxidermy cased Common Roach (Rutilus Rutilus) dated 1885, by J Bolton, Taxidermy, 5 Freindly St, New Town Deptford.
The fish specimen is preserved and mounted within a naturalistic setting amidst reeds, weeds and grasses. The Roach is set above a pebbled river bed, mounted against a wash painted back drop, in an ebonised bow-front three-glass display case with painted and gilded border.
This measures 44 cms by 14.5 cms by 26.5 cms high.
The case has a hand written paper label to the upper right, inside. "Roach Weight 1lb 2oz, from River Medway, taken by Mr Lawes July 5th 1885, preserved by J. Bolton, 5 Friendly St, New Town, Deptford"
