Description

This is a very beautiful seated Buddha figure which dates from the late 19th Century. The Buddha is in carved wood which has been beautifully gilded but is now softly worn, revealing the iron red colour below and giving the figure a wonderful aged patina. The Buddha sits in meditation and his clothing is hand decorated with a multitude of tiny red stones and mirror fragments. The base and the figure are carved from one pice of wood which can be seen from beneath to be a cross section from a tree. It measures 18 inches high and is 12 inches long.
