Description

This is a very nice example of a Yomut Turkman (East Caspian region) hand woven chuval rug, dating from around 1900. The chuval is quite finely woven in soft lustrous wool and has 9 guls on a bllod red field within narrow ivory borders. Chuvals were intended as deep storage bags so this piece has one side which is plain kelim. This makes it very suitable to use over a sofa or other piece of furniture, showing off the woollen bag face. The chuval rug measures 131 cms by 120 cms and is in excellent condition with a neat low pile. It would also be a suitable entrance mat size. We do have another very similar piece listed, almost the same size.
