Description

This is a superb Japanese Akasuke Ginbari cloisonné vase dating from the early 20th century. Ginbari is a unique Japanese cloisonne where textured silver foil is wrapped around the metal body (normally brass) and wire silver closons before the transparent enamel is applied. The term ‘Akasuke’ refers to a special pigeon blood coloured red. The design on this fine Akasuke Ginbari Vase is of beautiful Wisteria set against a wonderfully stippled and textured background. This vase is a perfect example with a sharp, crisp and clear colour to the deep red enamelling. This vase whilst unmarked is of the quality of the workshops of Kumeno Teitaro in Nagoya from 1863 to 1939 and is one of two Akasuke Ginbari Vases we currently have listed. The other vase that came from the same source as this one bears the struck mark to the base. (Please see our other listings.)

This is a fine example indeed and measures 15.5 cms high by 8 cms in diameter.
