Description

This is a fine French Overmantel mirror of great scale with a real wow factor. The mirror is a most imposing sight with a fine colour to the original gilding and has its original beautifully clean plate glass mirror in outstanding condition for its age, with little or no marks or blemishes to the glass. The hand carved and gesso moulded frame has a most appealing shape and superb proportions. The mirror dates from around 1870 and measures an impressive 2 metres in height by 1.42 metres wide.
This is a rare size for a mirror of this type. Good French mirrors can be 2 metres high but are are usually narrow at around 1 metre wide so at 1.4 metres this is a really great piece.
