Description

This handsome longcase is a most attractive clock with a rare rocking ship mechanism to the dial. The clock keeps good time, running for 8 days and striking a bell on the hour. The case is in mahogany and burr walnut which has a delightful grain, there is some evidence of old woodworm but this is long gone and this blends in with the burr grain and adds to the character somewhat. The clock dates from around 1810 and is raised on a later bracket foot base. The long door has a working lock and key and is inlaid with a conch design. The hand painted dial has a nautical theme, with anchors painted in the spandrels and rocking ship in a choppy sea and the pendulum has an attractive antique painted scene.
This clock has lovely proportions measuring 89" high, 20" wide and 9.5" deep.
