Description

This is a fine and imposing William IV period with beautiful original gilding. The mirror is a substantial size and has impressive outward scrolling acanthus leaves from the handsome columns to either side. The opulent design has a somewhat Irish influence so this may have originated from a good Irish property at some time past. The mirror has a breakfront design with a grand upper moulded cornice and reeded ebonised slip to the glazing.
The gilding is in very good order overall for its age (circa 1837) and has a great colour. The mirror glass is the original mercury plate which is in good clean condition with hardly any ageing marks or blemishes.
This is a very large overmantle that would suit a fine fireplace in a grand house.
The mirror measures 157 cms wide at the cornice and is 140 cms wide at the base. The height is 92 cms and the depth is 18 cms at the cornice.
