Description

This is a wonderful antique paisley shawl which dates from the late 19th century. The shawl is very large and shawls of this size were known as 'piano shawls' as they were large enough to adorn the surface of a grand piano. The shawl is in very fine woven wool and would be hand made on a loom. It has a very beautiful colour palette with warm autumnal reds, greens and pinks dominant.
Unusually for a piece as old as this the shawl is in surprisingly good order, with only a couple of very tiny holes, (about 2 mm) only visible when it is held against the light.
The shawl measures a 348 cms by 164 cms.
