Description

Views of Teignmouth & Shaldon, Devon (early c.19th)

Three early 19th century watercolours “Views of Teignmouth & Shaldon” ascribed to William Pidsley? – from the estate of Jennifer Madge.

These early depictions of Teignmouth and Shaldon are of historic value to the region in which they were painted and no doubt worthy of further research. The artist appears to be a talented local amateur working from the late 18th to the early part of the 19th century.

Condition: All three pictures have been attached to boards, however the paper on two of the watercolours have been lightly glued to separate sheets of paper before being applied to boards. Overall browning and discolouration on all three. Any conservation work should be carried out by an accredited paper conservator.
