Description

A truly fabulous late nineteenth century jewelry box made from a fine example of malachite, the first image is the most true colour in person.

The Malachite during this era was aggressively mined in the Ural Mountains of Russia so I suspect the this stone to be of Russian origin.

The exquisite original legs are cast in bronze as are the other mounts including the escutcheon to the front which houses a working key.

The lid once opened is held open with supports to either side of the box and the interior lined in a deep burgundy velvet.

Excellent condition measuring 11" x 4 3/4" x 3 7/8" tall.
