Description

A charming oil sketch on card of the famous village pond at Worth Matravers, Dorset by Arthur de Tivolli 1891-1961. The work is a beautiful plein air piece, depicting a view across the pond towards the village. The painting is signed in full to the lower right: Arthur de Tivolli. Arthur de Tivolli 1891-1961 was a landscape artist of Italian and British descent was raised in Bournemouth and studied there and spent time in Italy where he exhibited works. He settled and married in Dorset and has works hanging in the Russel-Cotes Museum in Bournemouth. This piece was almost certainly created after his marriage when living in Dorset. The painting is in excellent untouched condition and retains the original simple oak frame. C.1940.
