Georgian Needlework Of A Blue Tit

Photos

Description

A fine and interesting silk needlework by Susannah Cleveland. The work is very unusual in that it shows a particular bird, in this case a blue tit. The needlework is very fine and detailed in silk thread on a silk base. The condition of the piece is excellent with the colours still bright and vibrant. The oval frame and mount are the original and in great untouched condition. The work comes from a small collection of pieces by Susannah Cleveland of Margate who was the proprietor of the bathing rooms in the town at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The whole is an unusual and fine example of Georgian needlework in excellent condition. C.1810.
