Description

A fine summer scene oil on canvas by Charles Leaver Shaw (1853-1903). The scene beautifully depicts the English summer with a river in the foreground and in the background, farmers harvesting the wheat. The work is accomplished with a great composition and confident use of the oils. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition. The work is signed to the lower right on the front and inscribed on the reverse with the date 1881. Charles Leaver Shaw was a well-regarded Victorian landscape artist from Nottingham where he exhibited at the society of artists between 1880-1898. The painting retains what is most likely the original simple gilt frame which is in very good untouched condition. A charming and decorative English landscape oil that is ready to hang.
