A 19th century treen bottle holder. These turned wooden containers were for protecting delicate items such as apothecary bottles, chemicals, tumblers, perfume bottles, syringes, and thermometers. This fairly early example is made from boxwood, as most of them were. It has a slightly tapered body, and the screw-on lid has a nipple topped high dome. The lid has 2 cracks and a little damage to one area of the rim. Circa 1850.
