Description

We have for sale a very striking and very hard to find Chelsea Derby porcelain bowl from the Duke of Northumberland Service decorated by the then chief Chelsea Derby flower painter Edward Withers in 1779.

The bowl is of a round lobed form and decorated with a turquoise and gilt oeil-de-perdix border containing four gilt bordered vignettes painted with pink roses, all around central scattered sprigs of pink roses and leaves against a white ground. The base of the bowl carries a gold Chelsea Derby anchor mark.

This 245 year old Chelsea Derby bowl is 8.75 inches (22.2cm) inches in diameter, 2 inches (5.1cm) high and is in a very good antique condition with no chips, cracks or repairs, although the are some small losses to the gilt in places and some marks to the central decoration.
