Description

We have for sale a rather attractive and rare copper lidded pot on a tray attributed to the London Guild and School of Handicraft dating to around 1890.

This unusual lidded pot consists of an oval planished copper body consisting of a single overlapped sheet of copper at a lobed joint with visible rivets that are closed to the interior of the pot. The pot is completed with a planished domed oval lid with a interwoven wire handle typical of a Charles Robert Ashbee designed piece. The pot itself then sits on a copper planished tray. These pots originally contained a ceramic liner, unfortunately the liner is missing in this example. Typical of the Guild of Handicraft, the pot is unsigned.

The pot is 3.5 inches (9cm) high, 6.25 inches (16cm)long and is in a very good condition other than light surface wear. However, the inner rim of the lid has become slightly detached from the lid at one point see the 5th photograph.
