Description

We have for sale the perfect gift for the collector of early Derby porcelain, a rare example of a dessert plate from the famed Derby Prince of Wales service c1786.

Decorated by William Billingsley with a single beautifully painted pink rose and forget-me-nots. Dawn pink rim and fine gilding with a puce mark along with the pattern number 65. From a high quality service supplied to the Prince of Wales (later George IV). The pattern is illustrated in “William Billingsley” by WD John, plate 28 and in "The Billingsley Collection Including Derby, Pinxton, Worcester, Swansea, Nantgarw and Coalport" by Morgan Denyer, Rachel Denyer and Howell G.M. Edwards, 2019 (available as an e-book via Amazon).

The plate is 9 inches (23cm) in diameter and the front of the plate is in an excellent un-restored condition with only a few minor marks associated with light use (one has to wonder who exactly eat of this plate), however, there has been a repair to the footrim at the back of the plate, see Image 6 at about 2 o-clock. This repair is reflected in the price.
