Description

We have for sale a lovely Nathaniel Mills silver Vinaigrette.

The vinaigrette is of a oblong lobed shape decorated with a scrolling foliate design which extends over both the base and the lid. In the case of the lid the foliate decoration is formed around a central inscribed cartouche. Opening the lid reveals a gilded interior consisting of a hinged pierced lid decorated with a floral design. The interior beneath the grill is also gilded and carries crisp hallmarks for Birmingham 1845 along with the makers marks for the excellent silversmith Nathaniel Mills. The inside of the lid also carries the British silver mark long with Queen Victoria's head and once again the makers marks for Nathaniel Mills and the underside of the grill also carries the NM makers mark.

This vinaigrette is quite a large vinaigrette being just under 1 and 1/2 inches (3.7cm) long and weighing just over 18g (18.07g by our digital scales). The vinaigrette is in an excellent condition with no damage or repairs, although the gilding to the interior has worn thin in places, particularly inside the base beneath the grill.
