Description

We have for sale a lovely piece of passenger ship memorabilia from the 1950s a stunning chromed table bell from the Elders & Fyffes Line ship the TSS Golfito.

This very attractive steel chromed bell has a body extending to a handle in the form of an anchor and rope incorporating the blue white and gold Elders & Fyffes Line enamel logo. The inside of the bell is marked Made in England.

Elders and Fyffes were the major UK importers of bananas from the Caribbean and are famed for their blue, white and yellow logo found on each of their bananas. Elders and Fyffes were established in about 1880 and by 1901 had launched their first ship the SS Port Morant. The fleet rapidly grew with the ships being used as passenger liners and banana boats.

The banana boat SS Golfito had two 1st Class passenger decks and carried up to 94 passengers. She was built in 1949 by Alexander Stephen and Sons of Glasgow and scrapped in 1972.

The bell is approximately 5 & 1/2 inches (14cm) high and is in an excellent condition.
