Description

Silver Pounce Pot assayed by W Hutton & Co. of Birmingham 1918.

Pounce was a fine powder made from cuttlefish and was originally used to clean or smooth paper before writing on it. Later, when better papers were developed, pounce was used to dry and blot the finished writing.

This rare item is in very good condition especially as it is over a hundred years old. The assay mark is well rubbed but still legible. A great silver peice for any collection as pounce pots are difficult to find.
