Large Victorian Wax Fruit Basket under Glass Dome

Description
A superb example of a Victorian wax fruit display or bouquet of trompe l'oeil fruits, in a large and wide Victorian glass dome.Including grapes, apples, pears, strawberries, raspberries, etc., with small sherry glasses, saucers and confectionary, all under a glass dome.
All the fruit is made of wax apart from the grapes which are hand blown glass. The leaves are in painted fabric and the branches are in wire wrapped in paper. The gorgeous basket is woven wicker and of a gracious shape.
It is a very beautiful trompe-l'oeil in very good original condition.
These very delicate and beautiful piece of art always graced 19th century tables. During the that period, this type of fruit arrangement became quite a popular form of decorative art which was proudly displayed in the dining room, parlour or sitting room.
