Note: Adie & son was a partnership between the renowned Instrument Maker Alexander Adie and his son John. They held a Royal warrant as Opticians to William IV and Queen Victoria. They were they only Father and Son to be elected as Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. It is most unusual to find a stick barometer by these makers made in oak and of this particular style. It’s possible that it may have been made for personal use.
