Description

This is a beautiful small Victorian walnut Davenport of very high quality. It is also quite unique I think.
Possibly made to order, perhaps for a young lady as her first desk, the cabinet maker has reduced it's size a little, and scaled it down in perfect proportion to that of a full size davenport.

Built to the finest standard and craftsmanship, with choice burr walnut veneer and inlaid with marquetry. Original leather writing surface.

It has a stationary, pen and ink case to the top, with a hinged lid. This is removable from the desk, for use elsewhere.
There is a small concealed space under the ink pot compartments, accessible by sliding out 2 of the dividing panels (sadly no jewellery, rings or hidden notes were found)!

The storage compartment under the writing slope is nicely finished in a pale veneer - satin birch, and there are 2 internal drawers, with ebonised knobs. The profiles of the drawers are also detailed with ebonised trim for good contrast.

It has 4 full depth drawers to the right of the cabinet, and dummy drawer fronts to the left.

The back of the davenport is veneered also, so the desk can free stand in a room, and it has castors for manoeuvrability.
