Description

This is a very nice quality 'Carlton House' Writing Desk in Sheraton, NeoClassical style. It is hand built and demonstrates exceptional cabinet work and craftsmanship. It dates to the late years of the 19th Century.

The desk has a fine curvilinear form, with a veneered rear surface, so it can stand freely in a corner of a room.

The 'U' shape superstructure of drawers and compartments sweep and curve around the central writing surface.
There is a central arched cabinet with a locking door, an interior drawer and shelf. 2 Pillar document boxes to either side.
The 6 drawers are arranged in 2 banks of 3, and each have beautifully curved drawer fronts.
The 2 shallow stationery compartments have top hinged lids and are convex in form to complete the curved sweep of the overall design.
The top gallery includes a pen and ink tray with lid.
The quality and finish of the cabinet work are best seen in the photos.
The writing surface can slide forward to make it easier to sit at.
