Description

A most rare English 1853 pattern yataghan bayonet issued to the Royal Artillery. This bayonet is almost a direct copy of the French pattern bayonet often referred to as the 1842 Chassepot. There is no script on the back edge of the blade nor are there any signs that there may have been some script at one time The blade is of slightly heavier proportions than the French model. The bayonet will enter a French Chassepot scabbard but only with great difficulty and once fully in it will take some pulling out. There is some slight staining to the blade but nothing serious and the blade does retain a good proportion of its original polish. There is no scabbard.
