Description

This impressive Arts & Crafts display cabinet is made of mahogany and has a breakfront, glazed doors, large undershelf and an oversailing cornice. It is very finely detailed with a sharply moulded cornice, rounded edges to the glazing bars, delicately tapering legs and heart-shaped escutcheons. It has its original plush velvet interior.

It is confidently attributed to Liberty & Co. on the grounds of style, detail and quality. It bears similarities to the work of both George Walton and C.F.A.Voysey, who are both known to have designed for Liberty, and may have been manufactured by William Birch.

It measures 173cm wide, 168.5cm high and 46.5cm deep. The graduated shelves are 20.5cm, 31cm and 34cm high.

It is in good and original condition with the glazing entirely intact and a key that works all three locks. It has taken various small knocks, in keeping with its age, that are only apparent under close observation. The velvet inside is faded and bears the imprints of old pots.
