Description

This sideboard is made out of exceptionally well-figured teak and embodies the best of Mid-Century Modern design. On one side is a bank of four drawers, the top one baize-lined and fitted for cutlery, and on the other is a door that lifts and folds to reveal a drinks cabinet veneered with a contrasting lighter wood. In the middle is a double cupboard with adjustable shelf. Manufactured to the highest standards, a shadow gap separates the top from the sides and the front legs are rebated into the apron. The recessed metal handles pivot out when pulled.

It was made by Meredew, a company founded in Victorian times who came into their own in the post-war period after the appointment of Alphons Loebenstein as staff designer. His work revolutionised the firm and led to furniture such as this sideboard.

It measures 203cm wide, 74cm high and 46cm deep.

It is in very good condition with a couple of minor stains to one side that have been largely polished out (see last image). The glass shelf is missing from the drinks cabinet.
