Description

Comprised of a wardrobe and a dressing chest, this Glasgow School bedroom suite by Wylie & Lochhead is extremely well made out of quarter-sawn oak. The chest has three graduated drawers with a tilting mirror above and the wardrobe has a single door that unlocks to reveal hooks and a rail. Both are cross-banded with a wood, once stained green but now faded, that is in turn inlaid with ebony stringing. The drawers and warbrobe door have matching metal ring handles and backplates.

It features in the Wylie & Lochhead catalogue for 1908.

The wardrobe measures 107cm wide, 200.5cm high and 54cm deep.

The dressing chest measures 99cm wide, 138cm high and 54cm deep.

Additional images can be provided upon request.

It is in overall very good condition having been stripped and refinished. There is some foxing to the mirror and black pitting to the oak on the wardrobe door. The bottom of the carcass of both items is made of a softwood and this has been affected by woodworm. which has been treated and is now inactive.
