Description

Original copper engraved print with modern hand colouring of an Armillary Sphere.

Dark brown wooden frame with gilding museums-quality mounting board.

This print originates from a French atlas or scientific work.

An armillary sphere is a model of objects in the sky (in the celestial sphere), consisting of a spherical framework of rings, centred on Earth, that represent lines of celestial longitude and latitude and other astronomically important features such as the ecliptic, the horizon and the Zodiacs.

In this print, the sphere is seen in front of a cloth-type backdrop with 2 sketches of comparing astronomical systems below.
