William Birch for Liberty 4 x Arts & Crafts Chairs

Description
A Set of Four Genuine Arts & Crafts Period Dining Chairs - Amazing Patina!- Designed by William Birch and retailed by Liberty -
A highly attractive set of four standard dining chairs with stuffed and upholstered seats.
A much celebrated chair design from the early 20th century, featuring broad and slightly curved panel splat backs and simple, turned columns and stretchers. The chairs possess a very elegant and 'economical' design, absolutely of the period and very reflective of the design ethos of the Arts & Crafts movement as a whole. There is nothing superfluous here, but neither are they bland. Such an understated and apparently 'simple' look is a challenge for the designer, but William Birch has succeeded here.
These are versatile chairs in that they fit very well into traditional or contemporary interiors alike.
This particular set has been well used and is presented in unrestored 'country house' condition. They possess an extraordinarily rich surface patina from years of use and accumulated old polish - the surface of varying tone and lovely rich colour. The full condition, including notes on potential improvements that could be made, is noted below.

In used, country house condition and unrestored.
All four chairs with a worn surface patina and varying degrees of marking from many decades of use. Similarly, all chairs with varying degrees of movement to the frames, all would benefit from modest remedial work, but I am offering them as is, and as found.
All with a glorious, rich patina from decades of use and polishing. There is some chipping away in places - particularly to the top of some of the turned legs at the seat. A couple of the joins here have also weakened and worked loose with a few gaps appearing. One of the chairs with somewhat more movement than the others and now requiring a little attention to tighten back up and repair / fasten. The other three useable but again, could benefit from a little remedial work to tighten back up. One of the curved splat backs has a small split (again, as shown in the close up shot). Another splat back has vertical surface marking, again all as clearly shown. The later upholstered seats are of the tapestry kind and are highly attractive, fitting well with the Arts and Crafts aesthetic. However, some of the webbing to the underside has weakened to a couple (as shown) resulting in a 'sunken' seat. Again this is an area where improvements could be made, or simply accepted and used as is.
