Description

Frederick Tucker (British, 1860 - 1935)

An outstanding exhibition quality painting by this celebrated English landscape painter of the late 19th - early 20th century.

This is a wonderful work....and on a vast, vast scale all of it's own!

Dating to around the turn of the century and depicting the scattered buildings of the village of Braithwaite in Cumbria, set before plunging moorlands and wooded enclaves. Smoke eases up from the chimney tops and, in the foreground, a small flock of sheep make their way back to a farmstead.

The village has of course grown in size since then and this show-stopping painting offers a look back in time to a place long before the advent of modern tourism.

This is a huge watercolour, finely rendered and superbly presented behind glass and set within a fine quality stepped mount and beautifully framed, all to the highest standard. It is signed to the lower left, as shown and also has a printed inscription to the mount which reads:

'Frederick Tucker'
'The Shades of Autumn Braithwaite, Cumberland'

If you are a collector of this artist, or indeed of Cumbrian scenes more generally, this painting is a must.
