Large Beautiful Crewel Embroidered Folding Screen
Description
A Very Beautiful Antique Folding Embroidered ScreenDating to around the late Victorian period is this truly lovely three-fold screen.
Mahogany framed with each panel inset with an original embroidered wool-work panel, depicting various stylised flowers and foliage issuing from grassy mounds.
This is a large and striking piece and would make a stunning addition to a variety of properties and decorative schemes, from a period Victorian interior through Edwardian and even into the Arts and Crafts. The design is somewhat William Morris and timeless.
The foliage is very well rendered and neatly stitched with numerous flower heads, leaves and scrolling tendrils.
A period property decorator's dream come true.
Please note, UK delivery on this item (excluding Highlands, Islands and Ireland) is fully included in the price. Collection in person welcome.
Dimensions -
173.5 cms high. Each panel measures 67cms wide (including the mahogany surround).
Overall, when fully extended flat against the wall, the width is approx 203 cms.
Condition -
Overall, good for age. Some colour fading which is very common for dyed wool from this period. This is slightly more noticeable to the right hand panel from exposure. Structurally sound. Each panel complete and free from rips and holes. Very slight fraying to the base of one panel, but very forgivable. Overall the piece displays extremely well and reads as a clean, well-cared for and complete piece of furniture.
