Description

Just arrived this afternoon from a property clearance in Oxfordshire.

A Pair of Large and Highly Unusual Oak Hall Chairs.

A splendid pair of chairs, of traditional construction from English oak. With low, swept armrests and legs united by solid stretchers. The tall, architectural backs each enclose carved linenfold panels and, most interestingly, the tops are carved with the Royal insignia of crowns and 'G.R.' and 'M.R.'

Each chair comes with a quality bespoke seat cushion which makes them surprisingly comfortable to use.

These chairs have just arrived and are dusty from storage, having been kept in a property adjoining a charming stone chapel.

If more information arrives on the significance of the carved inscriptions we will update the listing.

We are dating them to around the early 20th century.

An imposing and unusual pair of chairs that would look superb in the hallway of a period country property or perhaps flanking a window or fireplace.
