Description
Cavendish Morton (1911 - 2015)A Fine Watercolour Landscape - 'Squall on the River Alde' (Sussex, UK).
Signed and dated lower right: 'Cavendish Morton 1969'.
Personalised in ink verso as shown: 'Squall On The Alde 1968, 40 GNS'
Dimensions, overall, including the frame 79 x 60.5.
Cavendish Morton was a respected painter, designer, teacher and printmaker. His career was long and successful with works that spanned subjects, mediums and disciplines. He best known for his sensitive and direct observational drawings and paintings of his beloved Sussex and for subjects in and around the area of Snape Maltings.
This painting represents a very good and original example of his work in watercolour and of one of his most collected subjects. Interestingly the painting is still gum-stripped to an original mixing board and is mounted into the original 1960's frame. It's a fairly large work and displays very well.
A sound, appreciating acquisition and a quality addition to any Cavendish Morton or Modern British art collection.
