Description

A large Crystoleum after A. J. Elsley. A Crystoleum is a picture placed on the rear of glass, in almost all cases with a convex shape. Very popular around the late Victorian and Edwardian era. Owing to the fairly fragile nature many have been lost and broken so it is particularly unusual to find one this size. 27inches by 21 inches. Condition is good as is the original gilt frame.
A J Elsley was a renouned artist of the day, born in 1860 he had many pictures exhibited and was particularly popular owing to his ability to depict children and animals in excellent detail. We have a smaller crystoleum also shown signed Elsley and a flat one which may or may not be after Elsley. Also available is Bisque figure shown here which we understand is of his daughter. please phone for details of these items.
This example comes from a private collection we have been asked to market and is the largest available. Please note the arch shape in the picture is reflection only and is not a marking in the picture,
