Description

An attractive Crystoleum from around the turn of the last century. This was almost certainly from art work by the well known British Painter born in 1860, A J Elsley. He was renouned for his work showing children and animals and this work possibly showing his daughter Marjorie is most typical. He had many works shown in the Royal Academy..................
A crystoleum was a picture, very popular around the late Victorian and Edwardian era, put onto the rear of a piece of glass, the vast majority being convex and many of course have been damaged owing to the fragility. We have a number of these from a private collection which we are selling on behalf of a client. This unusually petit example having the original frame with the mounts on the corners is a good and attractive example. The velvet of the frame having a reassuring amount of wear to ensure the authenticity. PLease note our opening times if visiting, Friday and Saturday 9.30 to 5.30 other days by appointment with pleasure.
