Description

This is a fine quality marquetry inlaid mahogany linen press, dating from around 1800.

Constructed from richly figured mahogany, the piece is adorned with detailed marquetry inlays throughout, on both doors and drawer fronts. The press is presented in good condition with a warm, lustrous patina that highlights the natural beauty of the wood grain.

The upper section features a pair of panelled doors, each intricately inlaid and bordered with chequered and ebony edging, opening to reveal four removable linen slides, offering ample storage space. The doors are secured with a working lock and key. Below, the base section comprises two short drawers over two full-width drawers, with brass swan neck handles, and decorated with complementary inlay to match the upper doors.

The press is raised on elegant bracket feet and is crafted in three sections—top cornice, cupboard, and chest base—allowing for ease of transport and installation. This linen press not only serves as a practical storage solution but also stands as a refined decorative piece, ideal for a period interior or a collector of antique furniture.
