Vintage Biography, Sir Emery Walker, Danish
Description
Our Stock # 18.9533This is a vintage biography of Sir Emery Walker. A Danish, limited edition overview of the British printer and photographer, published in English in 1959.
Instrumental in the Arts & Crafts movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Sir Emery Walker (1851 - 1933) was renowned for engraving, photography and printing. A contemporary of the textile designer and poet William Morris (1834 - 1896), the death of his friend encouraged Walker to establish his own printing company - the Doves Press. Walker photographed the author Jane Austen in 1910, and received a knighthood in 1930. Acting as a brief biography and overview of Emery Walker's achievements in printing, this English edition is translated from the original Danish. Limited to 125 copies in English, number 72 is within the run of 79 copies reserved for members of The Double Crown Club, a London-based dining society of printers and publishers.
